Nepalese Scout thanks ISGF

A grant from ISGF was given to a Scout master of the Nepalese scouts to share his inner talents and experiences at the World Scout jamboree 2007 to be activity facilitator delegate in one of the activities workshop at the World Village.

He wrote: “It was one of the most remarkable achievements in my entire life. I realized that Jamboree was my “mother of Scout Life.”

He was working at a workshop on paper recycling in the World Village. The Scout master has to bring awareness about the paper waste and taught participants how wasted paper can be recycled with simply homemade equipments and use them for various purposes again. He tried to explore the creativity and raise awareness about environmental protection and preservation even in micro level.

All the visitors (120 averages per day) were exited and surprised to observe simple home made methods of paper recycling as they are used to recycle with use of sophisticated technology.

He is very grateful to all those directly and indirectly supported him for the program.

Annual grant for Mauritania / Bourse annuelle pour la Mauritanie

In the World Villages, the participants to the Jamboree could walk among the stands of the 152 participant countries, could discover the different cultures, the different specifities and could choose an activity.

Those who visited the stand of Mauritania could better know this country through posters, photos, costumes, traditional jewels exposed in a traditional tent.

The workshop on plaits, the film showing a Moorish-African wedding ceremony, the dances of Mauritania led to many very rich discussions mainly on the culture of Mauritania and on the place of women in the country.

As regards Scouting, the stand allowed to highlight the actions of the Scout association of this country and its collaboration with the Scouts and Guides of France through humanitarian and cultural missions. In the tent of Mauritania, people could meet, cultures could meet.

Under the terms of our yearly financial support to WOSM, the annual grant was given to a young adult from Mauritania. ISGF made a generous contribution in order to make it possible that a young leader of the Scout and Guide organisation of Mauritania could join the Development Village of World Scout Jamboree 2007.

Danish Centenary Peace Gift - 25 Schools in Angola

As a peace gift, the scouts in Denmark were tasked to raise funds for schools in Angola during the year 2007. The aim was 100 schools – or one per local community. It was not all scout units that participated wholeheartedly.

But it was clearly proved that the successful communities were those with a close cooperation between scout groups and local Fellowships. Many individual fellowship members served as mates, bankers and logistic anchors.

We succeeded to raise funds for 25 schools.

“Say NO to violence” Campaign

“A life free of violence is our right. At least one out of every three women round the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime - with the abuser usually someone known to her.
Your signature will help end violence against women. Please go on www.saynotoviolence.org.
This campaign will end on the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March.”
Thank you very much.

New Scout Museum in Kingston, Canada

The Kingston (Ontario, Canada) Scout Museum will be officially opened on Sunday, February 17th with a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and a Dedication at 2 PM.

The museum, small by all standards, is a creation supported and partially financed by the 35th Canadian B-P Guild (Limestone). The transformation from an unused back room previously used as a Scout Supply Shop, has taken almost six months.

The committee of twelve and occaisional others helped clean the space; remove the surplus items; painted the room; decorated it and created numerous displays - one being a campfire setting; another has a number of artworks by and of our Founder Lord Baden-Powell.

There are other displays of::

  • a number of World and Canadian Jamborees;
  • Beaver, Cub and Scout uniforms;
  • pins;
  • neckerchief slides (woggles);
  • a display of the World Brotherhood Camporee that has been held locally for more than thirty years (one year on American soil the next on Canadian soil)’;
  • there is a collection of flags and finally a display of the B-P Guild of Canada and ISGF including the beginnings of the Spirit Flame route.

Our website: www.kingstonscoutmuseum.ca is in its infancy stage and will develop as we have time to download photos and other information.

This posting is to keep the rest of the ISGF members apprised of this Centennial Project by the 35th Canadian B-P Guild.
